Camilla & Jelte Wilde

Camilla was born and raised on a small steading in the non-ferry served outer islands of the San Juan archipelago. Aside from the five years she spent traveling the world and studying she has spent her entire life on farms. Her travels convinced her of the uniquely progressive quality of the community she grew up in and so, after marrying Jelte she moved back to the islands to co-found the Wilde Steading farm and farm services. She is an illustrator with a degree from the Edinburgh College of Art and works freelance when she’s not fussing bees or digging vegetable beds.

Jelte spent the first 20 years of his life in the most remote regions of sub-Saharan Africa where his parents were bush doctors. An astrobiologist by training, he gradually became frustrated by the lack of real change in response to global climate destabilisation and rampant anthropocentrism. He co-founded the renewable energy companies Scene Connect and Inclusive Energy. Jelte now lives in the San Juan archipelago where he divides his time between farm work, forestry and renewable energy implementation.
